Grading Policy
Students
are expected to turn in all assignments consistently to avoid receiving
a “0” zero for incomplete or missing assignments. Receiving a zero can
significantly affect a student’s grade; therefore, please check your
student’s grades on the Database on regularly. Once a student receives a
zero, I will email the parent stating “Your student has missing or
incomplete assignments. Please correct or complete them.”
If a student is not showing mastery (at least 70%) of course objectives, the teacher will contact the parent(s) at least two weeks before reports cards are issued and/or once the student has received two "0" zeros.
Students and parents can check grades any time by logging into the school database at www.hspaustin.org or on your phone or tablet by downloading the Harmony App. The grading scale is as follows: A = 90% - 100%B = 80% - 89%C = 70% - 79%F = 69% and below.
There will be NO extra credit opportunities. Students may have a bonus question on a test periodically as a bonus, but no extra credit assignments will be given.
Blank or Missing Grade on Database
A blank or missing grade on the grade book in the database does not equate to a zero and does not affect the student’s overall grade. The blank simply means that the teacher has not yet uploaded a grade. If a zero “0” appears by an assignment, the student failed to complete or turn in the assignment. The missing assignment can be still be turned in, but a deduction will be taken off.
Conduct Grades
Students will be expected to treat all others with kindness and respect and will receive a conduct grade on his/her report card. Those grades are as follows: E - Excellent S - Satisfactory N - Needs Improvement P - Poor

TestsTests will be given after every unit. They will be announced in class and posted in the school database. There will be 3-4 unit tests per nine week grading period. Tests will be mostly multiple choice questions with some griddable numeric response questions. Expect to see several review questions from previous units on each unit test. You may never use your notes or textbook during a test. If you communicate with another student during a test or look at another student’s test, this counts as cheating and results in an automatic zero. Students engaging in “academic dishonesty shall be subject to grade penalties …and disciplinary penalties in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct” (p. 34 Handbook). Students who score 70% or less on a test are required to do corrections for the test and turn them in within a week of getting the test back. For instructions on how to properly complete test corrections, see test corrections.

Test Corrections
When a student scores below a 70 on any test, they are REQUIRED to make test corrections. If corrections are made according to the directions below, a student will receive half of the lost credit.
Test corrections are due 1 week after the test is handed back in class. I will post a note under homework that will make parents aware of the day students receive their test back and the date that corrections are due. If the corrections are not received by the due date, then the grade will remain the same. The only exception to this is in the case of an excused absence. Here are the steps to correct your test: 1. Do not make any changes to the original test. 2. Use a separate sheet of paper. 3. Number each question as it was numbered on the test. 4. For each missed question, tell the correct answer and tell how you know this is the right answer. If you do not JUSTIFY YOUR ANSWER, I will not accept the test corrections. Here are some sentence stems you can you can use to justify your answer: * I got this answer by… * To solve this problem, I…. * I know this answer is right because… 5. Show your work for each problem. 6. Explain what mathematical error you made that caused you to get the question wrong. 7. Staple the corrections to the test and turn it in to your class drawer. If you do not follow these steps correctly and clearly demonstrate personal understanding of the missed questions, you will not have the opportunity to raise your test grade! |
